Crispy Seaweed Snacks
We all enjoy a crunchy, salty snack now and then. Seaweed crisps are not only delicious but also healthy, packed with vitamins and minerals. Making them at home means we control the ingredients and get fresh, crispy results without any added preservatives.
Plus, it's a fun and easy project to try!

Gathering Our Ingredients

• Dried seaweed sheets (nori): 10 full sheets (approx. 7" x 8" each)
• Cooking oil: 2 tablespoons (30ml) — sesame, olive, or avocado oil recommended
• Salt: ½ teaspoon (fine sea salt or kosher salt), plus more to taste
• Optional seasonings (per batch):
• Garlic powder: ¼ teaspoon
• Chili flakes: ⅛–¼ teaspoon (adjust for heat)
• Sugar: ¼ teaspoon (for sweet-savory balance)
• Sesame seeds (white or black): 1 teaspoon, toasted (optional garnish)

Preparing the Seaweed Sheets

We gently brush both sides of the seaweed sheets with a thin layer of oil. This step is crucial because it helps the seaweed crisp up nicely in the oven. We recommend using a small brush or even a paper towel to spread the oil evenly but lightly, so the crisps don't become oily or soggy.

Seasoning the Crisps

Sprinkling a little salt right after oiling helps the seasoning stick well. We can customize our crisps by adding spices before baking. Some of us love a touch of chili for heat or a dash of garlic powder for extra aroma. Experimenting with flavors keeps the process exciting and tailored to our taste.

Baking for Perfect Crunch

We preheat the oven to about 275°F (135°C) to bake the seaweed sheets gently. Placing them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper prevents sticking. We bake for 10-15 minutes, keeping a close eye because they can burn quickly. The seaweed should become crisp but not brittle.

Cooling and Storing

Once out of the oven, we let the crisps cool completely on a wire rack. This final step lets any remaining moisture escape, keeping the crisps crunchy. We store them in an airtight container at room temperature, where they stay fresh for several days. This way, we always have a healthy snack ready!
